Care Instructions
As with any wooden product, correct use and occasional maintenance must be carried out on our magnetic knife racks and blocks.
When placing your knives, keep them parallel to the face of the rack or block, keeping the spine angled towards the face. When removing the knife, carry out the opposite motion, keeping the blade straight, twisting the edge away from the face so only the spine is touching, and then pull the knife away. This ensures you do not cut in to the cork or plastic face of the rack and also avoids scratching or chipping your knife on the wall.
Before placing your knives, ensure they are clean and dry (not including oils designed to protect your knife, e.g. Camellia oil) this ensures you keep your rack dry and stops any moisture being trapped between the knife and rack or block which if left for prolonged periods can damage both your knife and the rack.
All racks and blocks are finished with a blend of food safe, natural oils. This helps to nourish the wood and enhance its natural beauty, over time your rack or block will need a reapplication of oil to prolong its lifespan and keep it looking fresh. Simply remove your utensils from the rack and place them carefully on the counter or work surface, take your rack off or the wall (not necessary for blocks) and with a clean cloth, apply a thin layer of Mineral or Tung oil to the exposed wood. If your rack or block has a cork face then take extra care to not oversaturate the cork, especially the edges, with the oil. Leave the oil to penetrate the wood for up to 5 minutes before removing the excess with a clean dry cloth, ensure you thoroughly remove any excess oil around the edges of the cork. Place the rack back on the wall, ensure it is secure before replacing your knives on the rack.
